So, usually I do not take photographs of a religious nature. I'm not even religious anymore, it is definitely a part of my past. Catholicism doesn't really inspire my art in such a direct manner that I would take a photograph of such a blatant Catholic item such as a rosary.
So why, you ask, am I doing it now? I am in the process of stirring up my past for the purpose of literature, and a few nights ago I came across this particular item while I was photographing this stuff: [link] I couldn't help but photograph the strangely reminiscent item that I had found.
The focus isn't great, but oh well. I know the tones are really warm, I like them that way though. It reminds me of the times when I used to light the candles around the altar before mass, when the church was a hushed and empty place.
This piece isn't meant to inspire faith or love of the rosary. It is what it is, a memory of a time that I cannot honestly say I miss.
The colours are lovely, the only thing I'd say that would make it perfect (well to me anywho ) would be a wider depth of field so that the rosary end facing the camera would be sharper.
I like how the rosary is not in the central point of the picture...not sure why but yes
I was going for that at first, so I definitely see what you are saying. There were other images that had better focus on the end point, but I really liked how the focus here was on his hands that were nailed to the cross. It was a tough call, especially because there were about 200 to choose from. I tend to snap, snap, snap like crazy until I look down and I have taken 500 photo's and 3 hours have gone by.
I like how the rosary is not in the central point of the picture...not sure why but yes
